Front-End Software Engineer

We are looking for a Front-End Software Engineer to join our team!

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team in Bristol as a Front-End Software Engineer.

Job Description

The Role

This role will be working within our development team to build and extend front ends for our exciting products. You will be working on a number of products across Vaarst including our SubSLAM X2 Camera system (see it in action here), our Data Platform, and our upcoming Autonomy products, working primarily in ReactJS, Typescript and ThreeJS, employing high quality software engineering principles and practices. You will also work with our R&D team to mature active research into production ready code.

Within your team, you will contribute towards the design, development, and implementation of our products. You will be actively engaged in building quality solutions through peer reviews, continuous improvement and using our continuous integration pipelines.

This role will give you the opportunity to get involved in field trials to test and evaluate new functionality and support deployment of software updates to customers. You will use your experience to help shape the technology and processes we use to our products, in addition to how they interact with other components as part of an offshore surveying solution.

Responsibilities

• Building high quality and user-friendly front ends for our products
• Contributing to a design patterns library
• Combining technologies to product unique and exciting functionality for our users

• Collaborating on technical discussions and decisions on front end development
• Contributing towards the complete software development process from conception to deployment
• Modifying and testing changes to previously developed products
• Breaking down requirements and building appropriate solutions
• Contribute to and uphold agile development practices

• Building knowledge in the company; share yours and absorb others’

About you & what you will bring

We’re looking for an experienced and talented Front-End Software Engineer who has what it takes to make a real impact in this role. We are looking for someone with the following set of skills, knowledge, and experiences:

• Experience writing and maintaining production-level code

• Leveraging APIs and data sources to build interactive and engaging applications
• Developing and testing complex solutions in JavaScript, Typescript, ReactJS or other JavaScript libraries and frameworks
• Developing secure software
• Agile development practices
• 2+ years relevant commercial experience

Additional Experience (desirable but not essential)

You may not have loads of experience in all the things below and we are happy to work on developing your skillsets, but you will have a general understanding and working knowledge of the following:

• Experience with ThreeJS

• Familiar with Redux or React Stores
• Experience working with Python (Django, Flask)
• Experience of working with ROS
• Skills and experience in Git & GitHub, CI/CD toolchains and containers
• Experience using AWS or other cloud providers
• Familiar with Electron
