Position Description:

USG’s manufacturing processes require a significant amount of heat, whether that is for board production, calcination or manufacturing ceiling tile. In the Thermal Engineering group, we support USG’s manufacturing plant through design of new and optimization of existing equipment. We make safety, reliability and innovation part of everything we do with a renewed focus on efficiency and sustainability.

We seek a summer intern to assist the Thermal Engineering manager to understand and improve our thermal process equipment. Your potential activities may include:

• Sizing thermal equipment, including piping, ductwork, burners and fuel trains
• Heat and mass transfer calculations
• Measuring and calculating temperatures, flow rates, humidity and emissions in on-site equipment
• Investigating new renewable energy equipment for trials
• Reviewing proposals for thermal equipment
• Analyzing thermal models
• Developing new whitepapers and equipment specifications
• Calculating energy savings

Qualifications:

• Rising senior currently enrolled in an accredited mechanical or chemical engineering degree program with experience with thermodynamics, energy balance and machine design.
• Experience with the following Microsoft Office products: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Good written and oral communication skills.

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
