Full Job Description

Duties

As an Engineering Equipment Operator your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Operate a variety of tracked and wheeled heavy equipment, such as excavators, dump trucks, motor-grader, agricultural and articulating tractors with implements, and dozers up to the D6 size.
  • Operate a farm-type tractor and attached towed equipment on level and rolling terrain to mow, plow, spray, plant or dig ditches.
  • Operate a truck/tractor with trailer (e.g., 50-ton low boy trailer) on highways and streets to transport equipment to and from work sites.
  • Operate equipment on flat and rolling terrain with some uneven characteristics due to habitat differences or artificial slopes such as roads and dikes.
  • Repair, maintain, or operate a variety of equipment, hand and power tools or test equipment as needed.
  • Service and repair equipment that includes checking fluids, lubricating, replacing components that require dismantling of the equipment such as radiators, hydraulic tanks, alternators, tracks, and excavator bucket teeth; and rebuilding components.
  • Track all maintenance program repair, replacement, operational and improvement activities via written notes, records and s.
  • Operate and maintain heavy motorized equipment (e.g., front-end loader, forklift, dump truck, farm agricultural tractor and implements, rubber-tired backhoe/ loader, skid steer, excavator, bulldozer, road grader) and other pieces of equipment as needed for project activities.
  • Maintain and/or repair tools and equipment including; welders, oxygen/acetylene torches, grinders, metal saws, industrial hydraulic pumps and other related equipment.
  • Operate power tools and specialty equipment, including: handsaws, power saws, power planers, plumb bobs, mercury gauges, dividers, closet augers, hydrostatic pumps, industrial hydraulic pumps, lead pots, pipe threaders and cutters, soldering irons, electrical circuit testing equipment and gas and electrical welders.
  • Repair, maintain, or operate a variety of equipment, hand and power tools, industrial hydraulic pumps, or test equipment as needed.
  • Respond to frequent and complicated changes in plans or instructions as required by the setting of priorities.
  • Interpret plans and profiles for earthwork construction and maintenance.
  • Apply shop mathematics and use measuring tools or instruments, and follow oral and written instructions, to use drawings, sketches, schematics, and blueprints, and to determine work procedures and details of work layout.

Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the Assessment Questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration. To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an “acceptable” level, and must achieve an average rating of at least “acceptable” on all of the elements. PCS INFORMATION: Entitlements for payment of basic moving expenses, as required and to the extent allowed by the Federal Travel Regulation (FTR) 302-3.101, are authorized for eligible applicants changing duty station when the change meets the distance tests as provided in FTR 302-1.1 and 302-2.6. All moving expenses are taxable.

In addition, relocation discretionary entitlements may be authorized for this position excluding contractor-provided home sale.
