The role
What will you be doing?
We are embarking on an exciting journey of growth here at Unum and our people will be crucial to our success. Reporting to our amazing HR Director, you will have the opportunity to shape and deliver the Talent Management, Leadership development, Learning and Development and I&D agendas.
The role will be part of the UK HR Leadership Team but will be expected to work closely with the global centers of excellence leveraging expertise and enterprise-wide programmes.
What will you bring?
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Talent Management and Leadership Development
Creation of a talent strategy which aligns with the enterprise Learning and Talent strategy.
Assess and implement talent systems, infrastructure, tools and analytics which consistently deliver on strategic business objectives.
Lead processes such as goal setting and development planning.
Ensure the development and delivery of agile learning and development for employees aligned to the changing culture, social needs as well as the business objectives, ensuring maximum return on investment.
Use learning technologies and other digital solutions to develop scalable training that can be accessed remotely.
Oversee the development and innovation related to all Unum’s competency and behavioral frameworks in conjunction with the US Centre of excellence.
Develop a comprehensive and strategic approach to talent management that develops an internal pipeline of talent, progressing and retaining our best talent and the identification and management of high potentials.
Continually assess the effectiveness of talent processes and challenge them to be more effective, inclusive, transparent and user friendly.
Oversee the development, implementation and embedding of succession planning practices.
Lead the development and delivery of coaching and mentoring capability within Unum, championing the benefits of coaching, mentoring and sponsorship.
Lead the development and implementation of executive and leadership development strategies and programs, including executive coaching.
Responsible for the planning and delivery of a program of Operational and Technical training to enable optimal business performance.
Inclusion and Diversity
Contribute to the existing enterprise wide I&D strategy and action plan to ensure they are applicable for the UK, articulating areas where a different or revised approach are required.
Researching best practice and thought leadership in I&D externally and ensuring this is incorporated into the annual plan to ensure successful implementation across the business.
Build an inclusive organisational culture and diverse workforce, through the role and work of the Employee Networks and other associated interventions.
Ensure diversity and inclusion is embedded throughout all areas of the business including leadership, line management and HR.
Review all policies and procedures to ensure that these are all inclusive.
Ensure consistent and constant measurement of selected metrics to track progress on the effectiveness of diversity initiatives and the impact on business performance,
Responsible for regular reporting on I&D metrics internally and externally i.e. Gender pay report, Ethnicity reporting.
Ensure any learning or career development process /materials help deliver the I&D agenda.
Development of an I&D best practice culture, embedding inclusive practices and mindsets.
Creating and maintaining a culture of support and challenge to nurture and empower colleagues to make necessary change.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Significant generalist HR experience at a strategic level working with senior stakeholders and executive team members.
A strong track record and a passion for Talent Management, Learning and Development
Experience working with a parent company and managing stakeholders and the messaging for a UK audience
Proven success of implementing innovative I&D solutions affecting positive change.
Experience of leading high performing teams.
Ability to build strong effective relationships at all levels of the business to understand future business needs and produce plans to deliver.
Strong project management skills, prioritisation, analysis and reporting skills, with the ability to deliver data-informed strategic approaches.
Strong commercial awareness, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisions independently.
Diplomatic individual with the ability to adapt to, coach and be effective with diverse leadership styles.
