Academic Coach Overview

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is looking to appoint an Academic Coach. You will be responsible for supporting student transition into higher education at undergraduate level, focussing on Levels 3 and 4. This will include coaching and provision of high-quality support, guidance, and feedback for all students, focused on providing academic support and pastoral care, to improve engagement and facilitate independent learning.

Academic Coach Role and Responsibilities

• Develop and provide a structured and appropriate development journey for students, enabling them to maximise their full potential.
• Contribute to the delivery of induction and employability skills, delivering sessions on professional behaviour both face-to-face and online.
• Conduct regular one-to-one progress reviews with learners and provide performance updates on learners.
• Provide teaching learning support to students via feedback on their English (EAP) and on their progress in knowledge, skills and behaviour acquisition relevant to their programme and their performance.
• Communicate effectively with students via the virtual learning environment
• Provide one-to-one academic pastoral support to students, including advice in respect of assessment practice and understanding and learning from assessment feedback.
• Support students in advance of and during work placements, where appropriate providing support in career planning, placement search, application process.

Academic Coach Role Requirements

• Commitment to fairness, inclusivity and the promotion of equality and diversity
• Educated to degree level or equivalent
• Excellent written, verbal and aural communication skills
• Excellent presentation skills
• The ability to effectively plan, organise and prioritise workload
• Excellent IT skills
• Excellent understanding of University processes and practices
• Experience of providing pastoral, coaching and/or teaching support

Over hours of attendance/work, which can include evenings and weekends where required
