The Career Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Career Coach. Our career coaches support students and recent graduates in exploring careers and securing internships and jobs through virtual and in-person 1:1 and group services. Each career coach also produces content for 2 interest communities and 1 identity community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Service
Help undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates with a wide range of career development topics such as choosing a career path, occupational research, resume/cover letter review, job & internship search strategies, interviewing assistance, and applying to graduate/professional schools
Position requires a minimum of 15 hours of 1:1 student contact per week (both in-person and virtual), though additional coaching hours may be required based on seasonal needs.
Facilitate workshops and webinars, lead small group coaching sessions, teach credit-bearing career courses, moderate panels, present at various orientations, and assist with career fairs and other events.
Resource Creation & Maintenance
Develop curriculum for workshops, webinars, courses, and other events, often in collaboration with academic units and other partners.
Create web content, handouts, videos and other print and digital resources.
For two interest areas and one student identity group: write blog posts, review emails from relevant resources, and curate resources.
Revise resources to ensure they stay relevant and accurate.
Tailor materials to enhance applicability to various groups of students.
Continuous Improvement
Meetings – contribute to staff, team, and committee meetings in the center, as well as meetings with colleagues and collaborative partners across campus
Professional development – attend webinars and other trainings; research trends related to student development, career development, the job market, and assigned communities; seek and implement feedback from others
Staff development – share information about assigned communities with staff; offer ideas and feedback to staff
Other Areas
Administrative – manage complex calendaring system; report on activities and attendance; grade student assignments; respond to emails from students, staff, and a range of other groups
Perform other tasks and work on special projects to support center operations

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience in having supportive yet challenging conversations with students in a one-to-one setting, and facilitating student learning in group settings (workshops, courses, etc.)
OR
AND
Proficiency with computer applications and online platforms (i.e. MS Office, LinkedIn, Zoom)
Commitment to contributing to an inclusive work environment
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Career coaching experience, preferably with students in a higher education setting
Experience providing quick advice to different students in brief back-to-back sessions
Quickly build rapport with students and recent graduates, assess needs, read the situation, and adapt approach to provide compassionate yet candid assistance on a wide range of career-related questions
Communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally to diverse audiences – in writing, online environments, one-to-one settings, and group settings
Evaluate and modify services, resources, and messaging to enhance access for students from historically underrepresented communities
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders – students, parents, faculty, advisers, administrators, employers, etc.
Give and receive positive and constructive feedback with peers and managers
Plan work effectively, manage projects, follow through to completion, and meet deadlines
Think future-forward, experiment, innovate, assess, and adapt
Create and implement solutions to individual, team, and partnership challenges
