The role of Finance Assistant at WMG is to support financial administration of WMG’s multi-million-pound research portfolio including WMG’s High Value Manufacturing Catapult research funding and its associated projects.
The role will involve collating data in support of claims, archiving and management of audit evidence, and liaising with WMG staff in relation to the various timesheet requirements which play a critical part in underpinning our successful management of high value research grants. You will be highly organised, an excellent communicator and have the confidence to take ownership and make appropriate decisions within pre-defined guidelines.
Educated to GCSE level or equivalent to include Mathematics and English (grades A-C) with experience of working within a finance environment, knowledge of using Microsoft Office, particularly EXCEL and Word is essential. Familiarity with a finance accounting package (SAP preferable) would be desirable and possession of a part-qualified AAT accountancy qualification or equivalent is advantageous.

Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
To support the Head of Financial Operations and 2 Finance Managers in the administration of WMG’s multi-million pound research portfolio including WMG’s High Value Manufacturing Catapult research funding and its associated projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To liaise closely with the University’s and WMG’s Finance and HR Departments to obtain evidence necessary to support WMG’s research grant claims made to the funder. This will include collating relevant copy purchase orders, invoices, and HR records and ensuring the completeness of the evidence in accordance with funder guidelines.
2. To ensure that the supporting documentation for audit is in order.
3. To collate and analyse data from the finance system and paper records necessary for the preparation of claims.
4. To liaise with WMG staff with relation to the various timesheet requirements over the research portfolio and ensure that they are compliant with each funder’s requirements and budget profiles.
5. To verify apportionment of hours on projects from staff timesheets.
6. To monitor fixed asset usage and logs.
7. To contribute to the preparation of paperwork for audit visits carried out by the funder.
8. To ensure archiving of project evidence happens regularly, and that the retention of documents is compliant with funder requirements.
9. To attend and produce minutes for finance team meetings to discuss research projects.
10. To assist the Finance Managers with ad hoc assignments.
