University of Utah Hiring for Accountant Job at Salt Lake City, UT Full Time

Assist Manager and Associate Controller with preparation of various tax filings, payments, necessary paperwork, and reports. This includes state payroll tax registration, reporting, and remittance for states other than Utah.

While this position is intended to work on campus, it also has the ability to telework remotely for a portion of each week. An employee hired into this role who telecommutes will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and sign the University of Utah Telecommuting Agreement.

Essential Functions
Assist departmental personnel with the preparation of sales tax, payroll tax, and income tax filings.

Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

Prepares revenue, expense, payroll and journal entries, and other accounting documents for review and approval.

Reconciles balance sheets, cash, general ledger, payroll accounts and supporting journal entries.

Problem Solving
This position will research federal and state tax statutes, regulations, generally accepted accounting principles and University policies and procedures and provide findings to management for review. The incumbent must be able to interpret complex policies and effectively communicate the information in an easily understood manner. The incumbent is required to provide analysis of each situation and use professional judgement in reaching a proposed solution. The Accountant is expected to recommend changes to accounting based procedures based upon analysis performed and specialized knowledge.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus one year related experience or equivalency required. A thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles, as well as demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Knowledge of PeopleSoft or Access databases may be preferred in some areas.
