University of Tennessee Hiring for Instructional Designer at Knoxville, TN Full Time

The University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for the position of Instructional Designer. The Center for Agriculture and Food Security and Preparedness (CAFSP) is grant funded by various State and Federal agencies and organizations to develop and deliver effective and engaging training content for adult learners. The primary purpose of this position is to work with Subject Matter Experts to plan, develop, write, edit, and maintain instructor led and on-line training courses for adult learners. The majority of training that CAFSP develops is continuing education for professionals working in fields related to Food Safety, One Health, Emergency Response and Preparedness, Biosecurity, Biosafety, Supply Chain Logistics, Environmental Health, Public Health, etc. CAFSP is IACET certified and develops interactive, performance based training content. CAFSP is located at the College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville, TN, however, the instructional designer chosen for this position can work remotely if they live outside of the Knoxville, TN area.

Typical Responsibilities:
Collaborate with funding agencies and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to develop training content that adheres to adult learning principles:

• Attend project development meetings.
• Review and edit SME content.
• Define learning objectives and develop exercises and activities that enhance the learning process (e.g. simulations, role plays, practical exercises, etc.)
• Develop supporting learning materials (video scripts, web scripts, instructor guides, participant guides, etc.).
• Identify the criteria used to assess a learners’ performance and develop test instruments.
• Conduct topical research on training topics and write draft content for SME review.

Develop PowerPoint slides web screens, videos, and handouts for asynchronous online courses and instructor led course:

• Develop online course screens using Articulate and Lectora.
• Develop PPT slides following prescribed agency templates.
• Identify images and create graphics to align with training topics.
• Collaborate with external videographers and graphic artists.
• Adhere to Section 508 accessibility standards.
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail.

Complete surveys and training needs assessments and develop course design documents to map out course learning objectives, training topics, training activities, and assessment tools.

Support CAFSP Instructors in training deliveries:

• Assist with virtual deliveries acting as either a host, co-host, or member of the support team (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.).
• Attend in-person course deliveries as needed.
• Assist with course shipping logistics as needed.

Assist the CAFSP Director with grant writing and any other assignments, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design or related field with three years of technical writing experience including reading and editing SME developed content, experience developing curriculum for adult learners including training activities, and instructional design experience working with online authoring software such as Articulate and Lectora.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Instructional Design or related field with 5-7 years’ instructional design experience preferred.
