Financial Services operates within the Division of Future Students and is seeking to appoint a Financial Accountant. The financial services mission is to work in partnership with the University community to drive insights for decision making, promote financial sustainability and foster innovation to enhance the customer experience.

The Opportunity
The Financial Accountant is a key position in the External Reporting and Compliance Team, providing a high-quality financial accounting service that ensures the integrity of the general ledger and supports the effective and efficient management of the University and its Subsidiaries’ financial resources, within statutory and regulatory guidelines.
The Financial Accountant will work within a team to support accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and processes, and ensuring all reporting deadlines and compliance requirements are met. The position holder will also provide guidance and support to the graduate accountant in the team.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Oversee and maintain the University’s fixed asset register, including work in progress reviews, and the accounting of the University’s leases.
  • Processing key accounting adjustments as part of month-end close-down process to ensure and deliver accurate accounting of the University’s financial position and performance.
  • Keep up to date with relevant external reporting requirements including Australian Accounting Standards, and Financial Reporting Guidelines issued by the Commonwealth Government.
  • Support the team in providing financial and technical accounting advice across the University based on knowledge of accounting principles, standards and practices.
  • Lead and deliver the month end close-down process, ensuring that all team tasks have been completed, in accordance with the University’s month end timetable.
  • Participate in the external financial audit and preparation of year end Consolidated Financial Statements, and those of the University’s subsidiary companies, ensuring statutory deadlines are met and appropriate outcomes achieved.
Your Application
To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate;
  • Fully qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practising Accountant (CPA), or actively working towards.
  • Highly-developed analytical, problem solving and decision making skills, with high level of attention to detail and demonstrated experience in preparing well documented, clear and concise analysis.
  • Good and up to date knowledge and proven ability to apply and interpret Australian Accounting Standards and other regulatory requirements.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and motivate others, and effectively liaise with all levels of the University.
  • Demonstrated ability to work to tight time frames often with conflicting and changing deadlines, prioritise tasks, identify and resolve problems and to deliver tasks within strict timelines.
  • Detailed knowledge of financial accounting processes and approaches, with experience of developing and maintaining financial controls.
Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $114,674 comprising base salary within the range of $89,171 to $98,012 plus 17% superannuation.
