Applications are invited for a 4-year, full time, GeoBus Education Coordinator in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES). GeoBus is a free educational outreach project developed and run by the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences, active since 2012. Its aims are to support Earth and Environmental Science teaching in secondary schools across Scotland by providing educational resources, inspire young learners, provide a bridge between industry, HEIs, Research Councils and schools, and to highlight career opportunities in STEM.
We are seeking a driven individual with a keen interest in STEM education and outreach and excellent communication and organisational skills. Responsibilities of the post are: (1) delivering the St Andrews GeoBus STEM public engagement and education programme, (2) coordination of SEES summer school and public engagement programmes, and (3) liaising with project funders with regards to GeoBus activities. The role will work alongside a GeoBus Education Assistant to undertake these responsibilities.
Experience with STEM public engagement and creation and delivery of educational materials is essential for this role, as is an ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences in a variety of delivery settings. Experience with secondary education is also beneficial. The position requires the successful candidate to become, or be, a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme for regulated work with children. Assistance in obtaining membership will be provided.
