Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Physics and Astronomy and School of Mathematics and Statistics

as an Operations Assistant. The two departments have a joint professional administrative support service, providing

dedicated support in all areas of operations and learning and teaching to staff, students and visitors across both

departments.

As Personal Assistant and HR Operations lead, you will play a key role in the smooth and successful running of administrative

duties within the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the School of Mathematics and Statistics. You will provide

professional Personal Assistant support to the Head of Department of Physics and Astronomy (HoD) and Head of School of

Mathematics and Statistics (HoS). In addition, you will be the lead for a range of staff recruitment activities.

You will work closely with the Operations Assistant (HR) and report to the Deputy Department Manager and will also provide

support for the Department Manager when required.

You will be competent working with minimal supervision on a day-to-day basis and have enthusiasm and commitment to

supporting our staff and students. You will be required to have a proactive attitude. You will have well developed good

problem solving skills and be confident in using your initiative to find appropriate solutions whilst working within a fast-paced

environment.

You will be required to multi-task and prioritise activities on a daily basis with be able to collect and assess information

rapidly.

You will have experience of working in a busy customer-facing office environment, ideally with previous experience of

working in Higher Education. Excellent customer service skills are required as well as the ability to deal sensitively with

confidential queries/ materials. You should be able to solve problems and use your initiative to work with minimum

supervision while seeking guidance and referring more complex issues to senior colleagues.

You will have 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above including Mathematics and English, or equivalent qualifications, experience of

working in a busy customer-facing office environment and excellent IT skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft

Office and Google applications.
