The Nuffield Department of Population Health contains world renowned population health research groups and provides an excellent environment for multi-disciplinary research and teaching. The Diet, Data and Interventions Group is one of several research groups within NDPH, and housed within the Big Data Institute, which seeks to carry out high quality methodological, data-driven research to inform policy and practice in relation to prevention of non-communicable disease (NCD).
As a Software Engineer you will work on research supporting population approaches to improve diet, specifically working on an exciting big data research platform used for analysis of online food and drink data, foodDB. foodDB collects and processes data on over 300,000 products every day and is built on a core technology stack of Python, MySQL and Docker. In this role you will work on the core platform, help improve our dashboards and data monitoring capabilities, help to develop our machine learning and data analysis pipelines, and contribute to research through data analysis and visualisations.
To be considered for this post you will have excellent programming skills, and either hold a relevant MSc or have equivalent experience in a computer-focused or quantitative field.
