University of Oxford Hiring for Evening and Weekend Library Assistant Job at Oxford, England Full Time

We are looking for 4 part-time Grade 2 Library Assistants to join our evening and weekend teams, based in the Taylor Institution Library (1 post) or the Sackler Library (3 posts). The Taylor and Sackler Libraries are two of the University of Oxford’s principal research libraries. The Taylor is the centre for the study of modern and medieval European languages and literatures, together with linguistics, world cinema, and women’s studies. The Sackler Library is the centre for the study of archaeology and the ancient world as well as art and architectural history, from ancient to contemporary worldwide. Both libraries are part of Section 3 of the Humanities Libraries, which also includes the Nizami Ganjavi Library. You will be based in one library but you may provide cover at the other two Section 3 libraries from time to time.

You will undertake a range of library duties including answering readers’ and visitors’ questions, issuing / returning items, dealing with book supply / circulation queries, invigilation, book replacing, supporting the book delivery process if necessary and ensuring safe evacuation of the reading rooms. You will also support the work of senior teams, including by checking reading lists and contributing to stock management projects.

The role involves lifting, carrying and shelving books, and pushing trolleys.

You will be educated to GCSE standard or equivalent, be reliable and punctual, be able to undertake routine tasks with accuracy, possess good IT skills and have a strong customer service focus. You will have excellent communication skills.

These are permanent part-time posts working between 9.75 and 14.5 hours per week as follows (please indicate in your application which post(s)/pattern(s) you are interested in:

• Taylor Institution Library (1 post): average of approx. 12 hours per week (0.33 FTE) worked in a two-weekly pattern, as follows: – Week 1 (14.5 hours): Tuesday + Wednesday (16:00–19:15) + Saturday (09:45–18:15) – Week 2 (9.75 hours): Tuesday + Wednesday + Thursday (16:00–19:15)
• Sackler Library (3 posts): one of the following fixed weekly patterns: –

Pattern 1: 12.25 h/w (0.34 FTE) – Monday (17:00 – 21:15) + Saturday (9:45 – 18:15)

Pattern 2 : 12.25 h/w (0.34 FTE) – Tuesday (17:00–21:15) + Sunday (10:45–19:15)

Pattern 3 : 12.75 h/w (0.35 FTE) – Wednesday + Thursday + Friday (17:00–21:15)

You will be offered additional slots to cover holidays of other members of the evening/weekend team. In addition, we have a variable hours pool team which is called upon to cover gaps in various Humanities Libraries. Appointable candidates who are unsuccessful will be asked to consider joining the cover team.
