Department Summary
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the hub of learning, research, and academic excellence at the University of Oregon. With nearly 50 departments and programs representing the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, the high quality of our programs is the main reason why the University of Oregon is one of only 66 top universities in the prestigious Association of American Universities. Our faculty and advisors work directly with students to help them think analytically, question critically, and communicate clearly about how to find solutions to real-world issues in the world we live in. Our staff and managers play critical and dynamic roles in supporting and advancing the academic mission of the University and of CAS.
The CAS Business Office (CBO), a shared service office, provides services in the areas of budget and finance, accounting and purchasing, grants, and human resources, to departments within the College of Arts and Science.
The mission of the shared services group is to provide consistency through centralized services, offering our expertise in processing a wide variety of financial and human resources transactions and functions including acting as a liaison to the Business Affairs Office, Purchasing and Contracting Services, University Human Resources, and Payroll Administration. We are committed to providing superior customer service and creating partnerships with our customers to ensure their needs are fulfilled to the highest standard.
Position Summary
The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Senior Director, CBO, and provides functional direction for all CBO units, focusing on two core areas: development and implementation of CBO systems and tools, and program representation.
In collaboration with the Senior Director and CBO partners, the Program Coordinator will develop and implement systems and tools used by the shared services teams in the CBO and throughout CAS. This position will be responsible for creating a strategic implementation plan and will oversee the overall monitoring of systems and tools by conducting thorough evaluations of program operations and providing comprehensive recommendations to CBO leadership to advance the CBO, its programs, and services. As part of program monitoring and evaluation, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for CBO metrics to evaluate services across the HR, Finance, Grants, and Stewardship teams and will oversee all internal audits. This position will work in unison with the CBO leadership in advising on operational structure, communications, systems, and processes to ensure uniformity and consistency.
As a primary program representative for the CBO, the Program Coordinator will serve as the primary contact for all incoming service inquiries. This position will regularly communicate with business partners and external constituents to explain and interpret University policies and processes and to identify and resolve challenges that arise. Under the strategic direction of the Senior Director, this position will be responsible for making decisions involving program policy application, requestor eligibility, and disseminating information for a diverse customer base, each having complex and technical requirements unique to their area. The Program Coordinator will evaluate requests that are outside of CBO’s standard operating procedures and will provide recommendations for the best path forward, collaborating with University partners and CBO leadership as needed.
The knowledge required and impact of these decisions are sophisticated and include those related to critical business operations, and require effective analysis, problem-solving, and interpretation against a variety of program regulations, including internal policies, university policies, specific unit policies, and more.
