Department Summary
The music program has an enrollment of more than 500 music majors
and a faculty and staff of 90, plus 70 graduate teaching
assistants. A wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree
programs are offered, from the baccalaureate through the doctorate,
including programs in performance, collaborative piano, music
education, composition, theory, musicology, jazz studies, piano and
string pedagogy, conducting, music technology, and music with a
liberal arts emphasis. The school is the largest and most
comprehensive music program in the Pacific Northwest.
Position Summary
The School of Music and Dance seeks qualified and available
applicants for its open instructor pool. The pool is for possible
temporary, part-time, limited-duration (non-tenure-track) teaching
positions in the academic music area of the school. Positions may
be one-term (11 weeks) up to three terms (9 months). They are
limited duration appointments not to exceed one year, but with the
possibility of renewable for up to a total of three years. Salary
is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Potential areas of expertise may include academic courses in
general music history and literature including world music; music
appreciation; film, jazz, rock, and popular musics; music theory
and musicianship courses including aural skills and keyboard
skills; undergraduate music composition; and general music
education courses including early childhood and elementary music
education courses, and practicum field experience
supervision.

Minimum Requirements
Relevant university-level teaching experience or professional
experience required. Master’s degree in a relevant field in music
is required. In exceptional circumstances, significant professional
experience in a relevant field may substitute for college
degrees.
