The Director of the Academic Resource Center and Student Retention shall develop, direct, and coordinate services and programs across the university to provide comprehensive learning services to support the success and retention of students at the University of Mount Olive (UMO). In conjunction with the office of the Academic Affairs, the Director will set objectives for the Center that are consistent with institutional priorities to promote student success, ensure access, and to enhance the educational experiences of UMO students. The Director administers and coordinates the Center’s services, programs, and outreach efforts including but not limited to: individual learning consultations, the Learning Accountability Program (LAP); the Peer to Peer Tutoring Program; Online Tutoring Program (through Tutor.com); and ARC study communities including Student Success Workshops, Supplemental Instruction, Learning Clinics and other groups as needed. The Director helps to create conditions for every student to realize personal learning goals and work effectively at the highest levels of academic excellence and achievement.
The Director serves as an initial point of contact for students entering the Academic Resource Center and Learning Commons, monitors Starfish to ensure all retention alerts are addressed, monitors peer to peer tutoring and alerts through tutor.com, manages a caseload of students for individualized academic support and Learning Accountability Plans and oversees student success workshops.
The Director will develop and direct the implementation of retention related educational initiatives especially for high-risk students and students coming from under-resourced or under-represented groups across the disciplines. This includes but is not limited to the ongoing implementation and monitoring of Starfish to ensure all retention alerts are addressed by the Learning Commons team and University Community in a timely manner.
The Director interfaces and collaborates with multiple university offices including the Student Accessibility Services, Student Health (as related to counseling service), and Athletics. As such the Director is responsible for coordinating processes to enhance interdepartmental and interdivisional communication.
In collaboration with the Cognate Offices, the Director coordinates the collection, interpretation, documentation, and summary of quantitative, longitudinal, multivariate, and qualitative data in relation to student learning in ARC programs and initiatives; establishes procedures for gathering data through observation, interviews, surveys, instructional technology and other sources. Writes and/or directs the preparation of reports and analyses setting forth patterns of student learning behaviors and program effectiveness; makes appropriate recommendations and plans for program improvement or enhancement; makes recommendations to Admissions, Deans, Academic Advising, and the Office of Academic Affairs that may inform policies concerning student success and retention.
Leads and engages in innovative project development for purposes of identifying and securing internal and external funding resources to meet ARC and university retention objectives, as well as objectives of new projects developed in conjunction with other university departments that serve to support student success and increase retention.
In collaboration with the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and the budget office, the Director must administer and monitor the budget associated with the Academic Resource Center and Student Retention Efforts. This includes conducting quarterly reviews and adjusting the budget based on the needs of the program and the University.
The Director may be assigned other duties by the supervisor as required to meet the needs and growth of the position.
