Essential Job Duties
1. Design, organize and present traffic safety programming to a variety of clientele.
2. Conduct traffic safety research to be used in program development.
3. Assist the Director with identification, development and acquisition of externally funded traffic safety programming and of available traffic safety grants.
4. Maintain current knowledge of traffic safety issues so that information may be incorporated into course offerings and presentations.
5. Instruct and co-instruct Alabama Traffic Safety Center course offerings to include classroom and in-vehicle driver training.
6. Promote and represent the Alabama Traffic Safety Center classes and programs through personal contacts and various media sources.
7. Assist the Alabama Motorcycle Safety Program by assisting with loading/unloading and transporting/recovering Alabama Traffic Safety Center owned and operated motorcycle trailers throughout the state.
8. Maintain necessary certifications and violation-free driving record.
9. Assist with the overall daily operations of the Alabama Traffic Safety Center as assigned by the Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of statistical procedures for use in the design, evaluation, and synthesis of program development;
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
Ability to use current technology as a training delivery tool;
Knowledge of safe driving practices and principles as well as the Alabama Vehicle Code;
Knowledge of boating safety; motorcycle safety, and bicycle safety;
Knowledge of emergency vehicle safety, practices, and laws;
Effective teaching and demonstration skills;
Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge and skills;
Ability to maintain a safe and violation free driving record;
Ability to work extended hours, including weekends as needed.
Education and Experience
The educational requirement for this position is: Bachelor’s degree in Traffic Safety Education or a similar field, or a combination of experience, certifications, and programming will also be considered. Alabama teacher certification in driver education is strongly preferred.
