Summary
The College of Engineering Honors Program identifies highly talented students who demonstrate extraordinary academic ability, intellectual curiosity, and clear potential to make a difference as a leader in their field. The CoE Honors Academic Advisor will advise prospective and current Honors program students to ensure that they are completing requirements for the program and are fully engaged in the enriching activities of the Honors community. The CoE Honors Academic Advisor will report to the Assistant Director of Honors & Engagement Programs.

Responsibilities*
Advising (50%)
Advise students on curriculum and manage progress; maintain audit; approve audits for graduation
Meet with students to explore focus areas in the Engineering Honors Program. Guide students through process of identifying a faculty advisor; help students navigate faculty advisor relationships and communication
Advise students in planning co-curricular experience, mentor the ePortfolio development process, provide career counseling
Coordinate with CAPS, the CoE OSSA and CoE Scholarships and other student support areas to ensure student success, persistence and well-being
Approach work with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Advising Administration (25%)
Develop strategies for retention, with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion
Onboard Honors & EGL faculty advisors; communicate with capstone faculty advisors related to procedures and policy issues
Communicate with the Tauber Institute for Global Operations on individual student concerns, advocating for broader student needs and coordination of partnership
Partner with the International Center to help students understand the impact of college and immigration policy on individual academic or career goals
Implement peer advisor training and ongoing support
Maintain student records database
Represent the program at events for prospective students; present at information sessions
Collaborate on advising initiatives within CoE departments/programs and related programs across UM; collaborate with International Minor advisor and Ross School of Business Academic Services; participate in CoE undergraduate program advisor meetings.
Program Support (20%)
Work closely with the Director and Assistant Director to assist in program development; recommend and implement advising enhancements and initiatives
Serve on the Honors & EGL admissions committee
Coordinate with Design Expo staff to provide a capstone showcase for Honors Capstone projects
Maintain alumni database and establish community among program alumni, and between program alumni and current students
Contribute to Honors Seminars through curriculum recommendations and instruction; recommend and approve student exceptions; manage advising interventions to ensure successful Honors Seminar and program completion
Maintain program data
Miscellaneous (5%)
Miscellaneous duties that support the College of Engineering and UM mission
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor’s Degree, with additional 3 or more years relevant experience.
Enthusiasm about working closely with a diverse student population on a one-on-one basis, and in small groups
Handle confidential issues
Willingness to work occasional weekend and evening hours.
Desired Qualifications*
Master’s Degree in Counseling or a related area and experience with counseling in higher education.
Experience working with students in STEM fields, along with an understanding of the special advising needs of high-achieving students.
Experience with Appreciative Advising
Knowledge of FERPA and U-M policies and procedures.
Previous record-keeping and database development experience; ability to work in web-based data systems
Work Locations

Additional Information
This is a term-limited position through June 2023 with the possibility of extension for additional years and/or into a permanent position based on the needs of the program.
