About Student and Scholarly Services

Student and Scholarly Services (SASS) provides student administration and services from recruitment and point of enquiry to graduation. This team also delivers wellbeing and scholarly services to students and staff.

Early Childhood Education Services is located within SASS at The University of Melbourne, comprising the Early Learning Centre, Abbotsford (90 places daily), Queensberry Children’s Centre (94 places daily) and Swanston Street Children’s Centres (40 places daily). These centres provide early childhood education for approximately 350 children aged 6 months to five years from the University and the surrounding community. The centres operate for a minimum of 48 weeks per year and are open for 10 hours per day. The early childhood education staff team is comprised of approximately 60 staff working either full-time or part-time across the three centres.

About the Role

You will be responsible for providing education and care for children enrolled at the Swanston Street Children’s Centre. You will be required to respond to the centre’s philosophy and approach to teaching, learning and assessment and to meet all expectations as outlined according to the requirements of the National Quality Framework. You will work in collaboration with the Centre Director, the Educational Leader, Early Childhood Teachers and other Educators to implement a high-quality curriculum for all enrolled children that is consistent with all relevant national regulations and standards.

In a typical week at work, you may:

• Contribute to the documentation of children’s learning and development under the guidance of the Educational Leader, Early Childhood Teachers and other Educators
• Work together with colleagues to provide a safe, supportive, inclusive and educationally stimulating environments for all children
• Supervise children’s activities to always ensure their safety, and engage them in meaningful learning opportunities, always mindful of promoting the children’s agency or choice
• Respond to children’s strengths, interests and needs and contribute to the planning cycle and review within the room

About You

You will be a natural empath, who is passionate about children’s development and growth. You will have exceptional capacity to engage with children on their level, in a range of environments by meeting children’s physical care and needs. Your ability to communicate with a wide range of children and adults from different backgrounds will set you up for success in this role.

Ideally, you will further have:

• An approved early childhood educator (Certificate 111) qualification as approved by ACECQA
• Demonstrated experience working as a member of a team in an approved education and care service
• Working knowledge of relevant Federal and State Government legislation, including (but not limited to) National Quality Standards, Education & Care National Law, Education & Care Services National Regulations, National & Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (0-8)
• Strong information technology skills and English language verbal and written communication skills.
