Job Summary
The Markey Cancer Center (MCC) Community Impact Office is recruiting a Prevention Program Coordinator to develop, establish and manage the Patient Advocacy Program under Kentucky Cancer Program East. This person will have the ability to communicate with individuals who have diverse needs using a great deal of sensitivity and tact to establish, build, and maintain linkages with advocates, researchers, and key stakeholders. This position will recruit and train a growing group of diverse patient advocates (survivors and co-survivors/caregivers), as well as train researchers to collaborate with patient advocates. This person will establish and maintain partnerships with patient advocates and researchers, providing opportunities to work together in informing research to improve cancer prevention, early detection, treatment and survivorship. This position will be involved in patient-focused cancer care research, help to facilitate patient advocate engagement in basic, clinical, and population research that responds to community needs and priorities, address barriers to research study participation, develop lay summaries of research studies, and advise researchers on incorporating patient-centered strategies into their research studies. This person will plan and facilitate meetings, workshops, events, and other activities focused on educational advocacy, policy advocacy and survivorship.
This position will have a fully onsite work arrangement.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Program management, and partnering with communities, patients, and researchers. Knowledge/experience with cancer research. Skills in team-building, managing multiple priorities among researchers and patient partners with diverse needs. Basic technology and Microsoft skills. Excellent verbal, written and listening skills.

Preferred Education/Experience
Master’s degree in Nursing, Social Work, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration, or another health-related field. A cumulative of five years’ experience and skills in the areas of Nursing, Social Work, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration
