Do you have proven experience of working in a student-facing role in higher education? Do you pride yourself on your people skills and the kind of attributes that would make you approachable to students who are experiencing difficulties, whatever their background or circumstances?

We are looking for a well-organised Student Support Officer with an enthusiasm to deliver an exceptional student experience for the Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS). Insight into student support issues and an ability to handle them sensitively and with complete confidentiality will be key, along with strong judgement and initiative and excellent attention to detail.

As Student Support Officer you will:

• provide support and guidance to students requiring non-academic advice including drop-ins and regular support meetings
• make referrals to and liaise with other University departments that offer support services so that students with difficulties receive a seamless support experience
• coordinate and deliver induction and other student support events and activities
• supervise relevant staff and contribute to the development of a collaborative working environment

To be successful in this role you will have:

• substantial experience of working in a student facing role in higher education
• strong judgement and initiative with the ability to effectively interpret and apply policies and procedures and understand and resolve problems
• line management/supervisory experience
• excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to show empathy with students who face difficulties

Our vision for KMMS is to ensure that this new medical school for Kent and Medway becomes a beacon for first-class medical education and research. Lead by its Founding Dean, Professor Chris Holland, the School welcomed its first cohort of students in September 2020 and will offer 100 undergraduate medical places on a yearly basis.
