University of Kent Hiring for Finance Officer Job at Canterbury, England Full Time

Our Research and Innovation Directorate are looking for a Finance Officer to join their busy team on an ongoing, part time basis (21 hours per week/0.6FTE).

You will demonstrate financial acumen and attention to detail to ensure that the department is able to exhibit accurate records and fulfil its financial commitments within the parameters of the available funds.

In this role you will oversee the financial administration and associated processes and procedures within the Directorate, including key financial procedures such as: month/year-end; expenses claims; virements and journals; the monitoring and reconciliation of all divisional budgets; preparing financial reports and data required for high-level budget management and analysis.

As Finance Officer you will:

• Provide operational management support to the directorate, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with University and other financial regulations.
• Provide professional financial guidance and advice to staff and students with the operational running of budgets and processes.
• Monitor income and expenditure against all directorate budgets ensuring all activity is appropriately coded and budgets are not exceeded.
• Provide financial management of the division’s portfolio of research and innovation project budgets
• Undertake detailed analysis of income and expenditure, producing reports and financial forecasts to inform Senior Management decision-making.

To be successful in this role you will have/be:

• Foundation level financial qualification (e.g. AAT) actively studying towards full qualification, or willingness to undertake; or equivalent
• Previous experience in a similar finance/accounting role implementing financial procedures in a busy environment
• Knowledge of UBW (Unit 4 Business World) or similar financial system
• Experience of gathering, analysing data, producing financial reports and making recommendations for action
