The University of Hull invites applications for a Lectureship in Finance. The successful candidate will join the Accounting, Finance and Economics (AF&E) Subject Group within Hull University Business School. AF&E currently has 26 staff (24.4 FTE), spread fairly evenly across its three disciplines. The Business School in turn forms the largest component of the Faculty of Business, Law and Politics. Applications are welcome from candidates with a specialism in any area of finance.
The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD in a relevant subject. Relevant professional accreditations or qualifications would be welcome too. The appointee will be expected to contribute to learning and teaching across all levels of our courses, from our Foundation programme to PhD supervision, although the majority of teaching is likely to be at undergraduate and taught Master’s level (Levels 4 to 7). We currently have modules in the areas of introductory finance, financial management, financial markets, international finance and risk management, across both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Where possible teaching responsibilities reflect individuals’ particular interests and expertise, but staff may also be required to teach in other areas (especially core modules). From time to time the opportunity to develop new modules arises too. The present appointment is being advertised on the Research pathway within the University’s Academic Careers Framework (ACF), and the appointee will therefore be expected to engage actively in research alongside their teaching responsibilities. However the ACF also contains Education and Knowledge Exchange pathways, and a suitably-qualified candidate may apply to transfer to one of those instead.
The Business School is home to a vigorous research community, which creates and disseminates internationally influential accounting, business, economics, finance and management research. We are especially committed to pursuing research that is multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, trans-disciplinary and user-relevant. All staff (whichever ACF domain they are in) are encouraged to contribute to and participate in this activity. In the same way, all staff are encouraged and facilitated to engage in collaborative and ‘reach out’ activity with outside agencies of all types, both locally in Hull and East Yorkshire and elsewhere. AF&E works hard to maintain links with relevant professional bodies in all its disciplines.
