The Work-Based Learning Specialist provides support to students seeking resources in pursuit of completing their degrees and preparing for their careers. This includes developing and connecting students with work-based learning opportunities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop new and ongoing partnerships with businesses and industries for appropriate work-based learning sites;
Develop relationships with personnel from Hawai‘i DOE, HI P-20, and related community agencies in support of career and technical education;
Work closely with partners in developing, enhancing, and maintaining work-based learning opportunities that align with the educational goals of the college and students and current workforce trends;
Collaborate with program coordinators, counselors and faculty to recruit and advise students about relevant opportunities that match their goals and interests;
Prepare students to seek information about career opportunities and workplace culture;
Assist students in developing job search strategies and in identifying and communicating their transferable skills, knowledge and abilities;
Utilize Design Your Life principles in developing resources and activities;
Collect employer and student evaluations about program activities and work-based learning in order to modify strategies to meet student, college, and community needs;
Hire, supervise, schedule, train, and approve work hours for 2 Student Assistants;
Maintain online databases and career software according to University of Hawai‘i Information Security guidelines;
Manage student and program data and prepare reports as needed;
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in any field and minimum of three (3) years of work experience, or equivalent education/training or experience.
Two (2) years of related professional experience that includes coordinating student support services and programs for students.
Familiarity with computer software to create spreadsheets, documents, and presentations;
Possess effective written and oral communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
Demonstrated commitment to and/or experience in supporting the success of students;
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a positive and productive working relationship with students, faculty, administration, and the community;
Demonstrated commitment to and/or experience promoting equity and a diverse environment;
Demonstrated awareness of the Hawaiian Islands and the rich diversity of its peoples, in particular, the values and history of the indigenous culture;
Master’s degree in any field.
