Job Purpose
To work in partnership with Colleges, Schools and other Services to ensure the University achieves its UK undergraduate and postgraduate, recruitment targets; contributing to the development and delivery of a strategy and tactics that engages with prospective applicants UK wide, converting interest to registrations; building successful relationships with teachers, parents and other influencers including sector networks and partners.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Represent the University to prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students and their influencers at a wide range of events across the UK. Develop and maintain good working relationships with secondary schools/colleges and other relevant external bodies and with individual applicants.
- Work closely with designated University Colleges and Schools offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses, capturing and sharing market intelligence and recruitment USPs, advising, developing and implementing recruitment and conversion plans in line with need and according to recruitment priorities.
- Contribute to and deliver recruitment and conversion activities, supporting and developing the UK recruitment team’s operational plan in alignment with ER’s and the University’s strategic priorities.
- Work closely with the External Relations Events team to enhance the University’s visit programme for prospective students, applicants, and their influencers. Support the delivery of Teachers’ events, campus visits and virtual events.
- Ensure market competitiveness of the University by benchmarking against competitor Higher Education Institutions’ recruitment and conversion activities and materials, participating in relevant internal and external networks as required.
- Assist in the management and development of the extensive schedule of external recruitment and marketing events run by UCAS, individual schools and private companies across the UK, attending events and informing logistical support.
- Work in partnership with ER Recruitment Marketing and Marketing Communications teams to ensure marketing materials are effectively tailored to meet the aims of the UK Recruitment team.
- Support the management and development of the University’s Student Ambassador scheme in collaboration with ER colleagues, Colleges and Schools.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of annual Regional Information Events at venues throughout the U
- Monitor and manage responses to prospective student enquires via ivanti, student recruitment email inboxes, Unibuddy, discussion in the Student Room forums and other routes of enquiry or discussion.
- To contribute to the successful transition of new students into the University by ensuring that academic and service staff are aware of the expectations, concerns, attitudes and trends that are apparent among applicants.
- To ensure equity and fairness in recruitment policies and practices and to develop recruitment techniques, in conjunction with the University’s widening participation practitioners, to widen participation.
- To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan; Inspiring People, Changing the World.

A1 HND, Higher or equivalent
A2 Marketing and / or recruitment knowledge
A3 Possession of a full, clean driving licence
A4 Familiarity with all programmes / degrees offered by the University

Dimensions
- Significant and frequent travel within the UK.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining links with secondary schools and colleges and with individual applicants.
- Responsible for liaison with and management of student ambassadors, on and off campus, where required.
- Financially aware of all costs/budget restrictions and processes associated within the department’s budget.
- Jointly responsible for supporting three undergraduate Open Days for c.18,000 visitors; Postgraduate Open Day for c.500 visitors; Offer Holders’ Day for c.5,000 visitors; visits by school/college parties.
- Jointly responsible for supporting and attending Regional Information Evenings in key regions.
- Ensure smooth operational running of all external visits including UCAS events and fairs and talks in individual schools/colleges, including travel arrangements, materials and communication pre and post event.
- Responsible for health and safety aspects of University of Glasgow stands and materials at events, ensuring all materials are safely placed in appropriate locations; moving dozens of boxes of materials at individual events.
- Affiliated to the Higher Education Liaison Officers Association (HELOA) to maintain links and obtain knowledge about other institutions and their working practices.

- Participate in the development and implementation of the undergraduate and postgraduate UK recruitment strategy.
- Manage a wide-ranging workload involving significant periods of UK travel.
- Manage diaries to ensure that excellent connections with schools/colleges and individual applicants are developed and maintained.
- Tailor presentations and materials to meet the needs of specific audiences.

- Prioritise visits and target school communications in line with the recruitment strategy.
- Utilise suitable student ambassadors for internal and external events.
- Work closely with Colleges and Schools advising, developing and implementing recruitment and conversion plans in line with School/College needs and the Recruitment Strategy.
- Respond effectively to any situation arising during events on, or at a distance from, campus.
- Create and maintain UCAS course collect information.
Internal/External Relationships
Internal
- Liaise with and advise academic and administrative staff in Colleges and Schools on matters relating to undergraduate and postgraduate student recruitment.
- Work collaboratively with Careers and Development and Alumni Office to meet the aims of the recruitment strategy.
- Work alongside Estate & Commercial Services colleagues to ensure central services (security, accommodation, room bookings, hospitality, etc) successfully contribute to events.
External
- Work closely with Schools and Colleges and influencers, offering advice on the University and admissions.
- Respond to enquiries from prospective students and their families, providing information and advice about the University and Higher Education.
- Extensive work with outside suppliers including freight agencies, travel arrangements.
- Work alongside outside agencies such as Higher Education Liaison Officers Association (HELOA) to maintain relationships and share information about Higher Education.
Problem Solving
- Respond effectively to any issues that arise whilst hosting or participating in events.
- Be responsive to day-to-day issues experienced within the UK Recruitment team.
Other
- Will be regularly expected to work outside normal office hours, including weekends and evening work.
- May be required to assist in international recruitment events if necessary.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be on the Management, Professional and Administrative Grade, level 6, £29,614 – £33,309 per annum.
This post is offered on a full-time (35 hrs) and open-ended basis.
New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.
The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities’ Superannuation Scheme.
