Newark, Delaware
INTRODUCTION/POSITION: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
(https://www.chem.udel.edu/), in
the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a tenure-track assistant
faculty in Analytical Chemistry and/or Data Science, broadly
defined. This Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position will expand
the research and educational missions of the Department of
Chemistry & Biochemistry in new areas of analytical chemistry
and/or data science. A faculty member in this position will benefit
from an exceptional legacy of chemistry and biochemistry at the
University of Delaware; an increasingly multidisciplinary
department offering broad opportunities for collaborations across
chemistry and biochemistry, including deep expertise in measurement
science; and a community committed to increasing diversity and
equity in our scientific community. We encourage applicants who
will diversify our faculty as well as the expertise of our
department. Across the University, state-of-the facilities,
including the Data Science Institute, will enable this faculty
member’s research.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking an exceptional
candidate in Analytical Chemistry and/or Data Science, broadly
defined. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in chemistry or
a related field, a distinguished record of scholarship and research
accomplishment, the potential for excellence in teaching chemistry
related courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels to an
increasingly diverse student body. We encourage applications from
highly creative individuals that seek to establish an externally
funded, vibrant research program that features: (1) developing
novel methods for the generation, analysis, interpretation, and
visualization of chemical data and/or of complex chemical systems;
or (2) using data science methods in complement to other approaches
in solving challenges in the chemical and biochemical research
space. Applicants with diverse research interests will be
considered, including those individuals pursuing research that
include aspects of analytical, statistical, machine learning, or
computational approaches. Responsibilities will include
establishing an externally funded, vibrant research program. In
addition, the successful candidate will engage in creative and
high-quality teaching and mentorship within an increasingly diverse
student population at both the graduate and undergraduate levels,
and be dedicated to incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion
principles and initiatives in their work. Our Department and
University strongly encourage applications from diverse groups and
backgrounds including women, racial and ethnic minorities, persons
with disabilities, LGBTQ+ people, and all other groups
underrepresented in the chemical sciences; we seek to enhance both
the breadth of research in our department and the diversity of our
faculty. The ideal colleague will strengthen and share our mission
of maintaining a diverse, equitable, and inclusive
environment.
