Context of the Job:

The University of Delaware, Network and Infrastructure Services
team has an opening for a DevOps Network Engineer in our Network
Architecture group. As a DevOps Network Engineer, you will be
responsible for leading and ensuring that University of Delaware
best practices and methodologies are applied to the design,
deployment, and automated operations of LAN, WAN, and Wi-Fi
services. Cisco IOS and Juniper JUNOS experience are required as
well as advanced knowledge of routing and switching, routing
protocols, data center virtual and physical networking, and network
automation tools. The candidate is responsible for technical
guidance and architectural support to various UDIT, college IT
teams, researchers, and any relevant documentation. Key support
tasks include diagnosing performance issues and resolving complex
software and hardware issues while ensuring that change management
and indent documentation processes are followed. You will also
provide mentorship and guide both commercial and local technical
training to junior personnel.

Major Responsibilities:

• Create, update, and publish University of Delaware standards to
  ensure the network meets business and compliance needs.
• Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and
  troubleshooting of University of Delaware managed network hardware,
  software, and peripheral devices.
• Oversee and perform hardware and software upgrades on new and
  existing equipment.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior
  personnel.
• Manage and govern relationships with technology vendors
  utilized in the enterprise network.
• Ensure security compliance with University policies and assess
  vulnerabilities while identifying and implementing mitigation
  plans
• Design, deploy, and support campus and server hosting networks
  and infrastructure.
• Provide business day and on-call support for network
  issues.
• Provide technical expertise and support to the campus clientele
  regarding departmental systems and applications when needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems,
  and/or Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field with seven
  years’ experience or a combination of education, certification, and
  experience can substitute for required education.
• Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication
  skills with the ability to document solutions, present ideas to
  cross-functional teams, and explain operational issue background
  and root cause to vendors and senior leaders.
• Possess a passion for teamwork.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Automation skills; knowledge of scripting and automating.
• A strong understanding of how to design scalable, robust, and
  supportable networks.
• Ability to verbalize technical issues with both technical and
  layman staff.
• Ability to work independently, sometimes remotely, while
  ensuring integration with the Network Architecture group.
• Experience with various OS’s: Linux, Windows, BSD.
• Possess planning, leadership, and support skills regarding
  technical initiatives and innovative solutions.
• Ability to participate in strategic and long-range planning for
  network and system services.
• Competence to evaluate hardware and software for potential use
  in the University environment.
• Adroitness in areas of specialization and good knowledge of
  emerging state-of-the art computer and network systems
  technologies, architectures, and products.
• Ability to identify emerging technologies and industry
  requirements and lead the research and evaluation of future
  technologies and solutions.
• Ability to perform miscellaneous job-related duties as
  assigned.
• Demonstrates understanding and consideration of the differing
  needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities,
  cultures, and backgrounds.
