CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Associate Director will collaborate with university colleagues
and implement strategies to engage the University of Delaware’s
alumni in meaningful ways including volunteerism and philanthropic
support of UD’s mission.

The Associate Director of Alumni Engagement manages the strategy
and execution of a full quinquennial Reunion Program including the
recruitment and leadership of ten volunteer committees. The
Associate Director is also responsible for managing alumni affinity
special interest programs and engaging these audiences through
events (in-person and virtual) The Associate Director will utilize
volunteers to assist with goal achievement as well as facilitate
interactions with Alumni and the University. The Associate Director
exercises autonomy in researching, evaluating, developing, and
executing engagement opportunities that builds a pipeline of
donors.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Class Reunion Program

• Develop, design, organize, implement and evaluate short and
  long-range strategies, plans, goals, programs and events for alumni
  through a full quinquennial Class Reunion program, all aimed at
  increasing participation and engagement and strengthening the
  development pipeline.
• Research, recruit and steward alumni volunteers to serve on
  class reunion committees. Recruitment will include solicitations
  through visits and phone calls. Create and implement a retention
  plan between reunion years to include identifying additional
  engagement opportunities.
• Lead multiple committees pertaining to the facilitation of the
  Class Reunion Programs.
• Work with internal and external vendors to execute class
  reunion event and stewardship plans.
• Analyze and evaluate reunion program successes comparing event
  attendance and giving histories through survey results, Blackbaud
  and reporting tools
• Evaluate event outcomes, develop proposals and integrate future
  event planning strategies.
• Manage the strategies for all reunion communication and
  marketing.
• In collaboration with Annual Giving, drive efforts to increase
  alumni giving through the class reunion program through the events
  and committee members.
• Conduct benchmarking related to strategies for class reunion
  programs designed to increase alumni engagement and participation
  as donors to the University.

Affinity Programs

• In conjunction with the Senior Director, develop, design,
  organize, and implement short and long-range goals for affinity
  programming.
• Manage the strategy, goals, purpose and implementation of
  special interest affinity groups including assess viability and
  event execution aimed increase engagement form the groups
  constituencies.
• Provide data on alumni demographics, engagement and giving
  history to assist affinity volunteers in supporting their efforts
  in successful recruitment, planning, and and support them with
  philanthropy efforts (i.e. Giving Tuesday and I Heart UD Day).
• In collaboration with key departments, manage all communication
  and marketing for affinity programs and events.
• Evaluate event outcomes, develop proposals and integrate future
  event planning strategies.
• Conduct benchmarking related to strategies for class reunion
  programs designed to increase alumni engagement and participation
  as donors to the University.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree and four years of job-related experience, or
  equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in development, alumni relations, marketing, event
  management, or other related field with a proven management record
  preferred.
• Ability to design, implement and evaluate comprehensive
  programs, establishing goals and objectives that translate into
  annual operating plans and appropriate staff assignments.
• Experience supervising volunteers and utilizing them to help
  with achievement of goals and desired outcomes.
• Ability to successfully design and execute large events.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Creativity, flexibility, self-motivation, high-energy and
  accountability are critical.
• Financial management and budget experience.
• Computer proficiency – specifically Microsoft Office and
  database experience.
• Proven ability to evaluate, develop, and edit marketing
  correspondence and related materials.
