The Finance Assistant role includes the collection of tuition fees in line with the University Financial Regulations, as well as the recovery of accommodation charges, and the management of domestic and commercial accounts. The Finance Assistant ensures accurate recording of bank transactions, raise invoices, maintains the Online Store and payment gateways.
We are looking for an organised individual, with motivation who can prioritise effectively. They should have experience of credit control, preferably with students, and the ability to deal sensitively and professionally with debtors. They should have a basic understanding of accounting systems (e.g. double entry), be comfortable with Excel and able to pick up new software quickly. They should have a good attention to detail to be able to pick up on anomalies and problem-solving skills to be able to determine the correct data. As a busy department the university operates an electronic invoice and reminder system supported by telephone calls to students and customers. Articulate communication, and the ability to stay calm, be self assured, and to know when to appropriately exchange information and seek advice from colleagues is essential. Prior experience of working in an education setting and knowledge of student tuition fees and the Student Loans Company is beneficial to this role.
The role is 0.6FTE and is for a fixed 6 month term. Due to the nature of the software in use and staff support required, the role is an on-site role with limited ability to work from home under normal circumstances.
