The University of Central Lancashire is seeking to appoint a Student Counsellor to work within our busy Student Support and Wellbeing team. Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) and with a recognised Diploma-level Counselling qualification, you will provide therapeutic counselling of the highest quality, to help individual students engage to the best of their ability within their course of study. Therapy and support will be provided using a solution focused, time limited approach.
The post holders will deliver health/wellbeing promotional and therapeutic activities to individuals and groups and take a proactive role in the anticipation, identification, co-ordination, and planning of response(s) of the current and future needs of targeted groups of students, prior to those needs arising.
Duties will include but are not restricted to managing complex cases, providing therapeutic counselling and proactive health and wellbeing promotional activities for individual and groups. You will be expected to work closely with colleagues across the service and on occasion with external services and agencies. Utilising your experience of working in an established counselling service, you will demonstrate a good understanding of students from a wide range of demographics and possess a calm and friendly demeanour in this challenging role.
We are looking for a counsellor who can demonstrate the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and who possesses appropriate communication and interpersonal skills to deal with a wide variety of issues.
The working pattern will be discussed at interview but will span 3 days per week and will include evening or weekend work. In line with business need and student preference, there may be some opportunity for blended working, and again this will be discussed at interview.
We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of the issues and challenges faced by people from different communities. We particularly encourage applications from male candidates, as well as individuals who come from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, as we are currently under-represented in this area, although all appointments will be made on merit.
Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is based in Preston.
