University of Cambridge Hiring for History of Art Librarian (Part Time) Job at Cambridge, East of England, England Full Time

Cambridge University Libraries wishes to appoint a librarian to develop and deliver library services in support of the teaching, learning and research activities of the Department of History of Art, a world-renowned centre for the study of art history from the Middle Ages to the present.

The History of Art Librarian will be based predominantly at the Middleton Library, in the Faculty of Architecture and History of Art. This is a specialist collection of around 40,000 volumes, including special collections, and the Library can accommodate around 30 readers.

This is a part-time role, with a working pattern of 0.6 FTE. Core working hours for the role are expected to be 9am-5.30 on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The History of Art Librarian will work towards the consolidation and management of relevant print, digital and special collections in support of teaching, learning and research activity in History of Art, including reading list management, collection development and description, and assistance with the Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle). They will invest time in building excellent relationships with a range of stakeholders, including, in particular, members of the Department of History of Art, as well as the wider Faculty, Cambridge University Libraries, and other institutions within the University as appropriate.

The History of Art Librarian will collaborate and work closely with the Architecture Librarian, sharing responsibility with her for the leadership and management of the Middleton Library (Architecture and History of Art). This includes contribution to the delivery, development and evaluation of effective and accessible user services, the management and enhancement of the library space, and the management and development of a growing hybrid information skills programme.

With experience of working in an academic library, and of managing and developing a collection of any size, as well as experience of building relationships with a wide range of colleagues, we are seeking a librarian with excellent communication skills, an ability to resolve problems in a creative way, and to prioritise a complex workload. An educational background in History of Art or a related subject is desirable but not necessary.

Reporting to the Head of Arts & Humanities Libraries, you will join a supportive team of library staff from across the School of Arts & Humanities Libraries network, and will have the opportunity to participate in wider professional projects taking place within Cambridge University Libraries.
