Deputy Lead for Student Welfare – Secondment Fixed-term: 3 years
The Clinical School wishes to appoint a Deputy Lead for Student Welfare This is a secondment opportunity, for three years in the first instance, based at the Clinical School in Cambridge.
The Deputy Lead for Student Welfare works alongside other individuals and groups concerned with the welfare and pastoral support of clinical medical students, including the Clinical Sub-Dean for Welfare, College tutorial teams and College Clinical Directors of Studies, the Clinical School’s Pastoral Advisor Scheme, the Medical and Veterinary Students’ Progress Panel, the University Occupational Health Service, the Clinical Student Mental Health Service, and the University Disability Resource Centre. The role also interacts directly with clinical medical students, and provides support for all aspects of the work of the Clinical Sub-Dean for Welfare; helping in the development of welfare support within the Clinical School; and deputising for the Sub-Dean as necessary. The Deputy Lead for Student Welfare will also take the lead for specific aspects of welfare (under the supervision of the Sub-Dean) depending on their areas of expertise.
Applicants should be experienced clinical teachers within the region where the University sends students for clinical placements, and they should have a high level of knowledge of and experience with the current Cambridge clinical course curriculum and assessments. They should have excellent pastoral support skills, excellent organisational and communication skills, and have the ability to be responsive and adopt a flexible way of working, according to student need.
The weekly commitment for this role is three Programmed Activities (paid at the appropriate rate with respect to seniority) which must be explicit in the individual’s job plan. As the role is being offered as a secondment, if an individual is self-employed, or is employed by a non-NHS organization, they must contact the Clinical School to discuss possible options. All candidates must have full registration with the GMC, and hold a license to practice.
