Departmental Overview
The Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) is an Organized Research Unit (ORU) of the Berkeley campus ing to the Vice Chancellor for Research. SSL’s primary goal is to foster research in space-related sciences and to provide education for the next generation of space scientists. Research at SSL, led by Berkeley faculty and SSL Senior Fellows, focuses on experiments and observations carried out in space as well as theoretical and basic research.

Responsibilities
Coordinates single component design, supporting analyses, construction planning, assembly oversight and testing of ground support equipment for space instruments
Develops specifications for aerospace parts procurements involved in the ground support equipment.
Works with other research organizations in the development of the ground support equipment.
Designs electrical, mechanical, electronic ground support equipment for instruments and of computer-associated systems and equipment.
Performs the recording and reduction of test data for instrument design and evaluation purposes.
Gathers and analyzes information and prepare s with respect to feasibility, engineering design criteria and performance of their components.
Required Qualifications
Specialist in at least one discipline (electrical, electronic or mechanical).
Skills in supervising engineering technician staff to ensure objectives are met in adherence to quality standards.
Education/Training
Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Preferred Qualifications
Working skills in the design, development and construction of space systems, including one successful aerospace product.
Working systems knowledge of other engineering specialties involved in assignments.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $82,400.00-$151,400.00.
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, and eligible for full UC benefits. This is an exempt, monthly paid position. The annual salary is commensurate with experience within the budgeted range.
