Academics in the Department for Health and Computer Science at the University of Bath have developed a smart-phone digital health app to help people with knee osteoarthritis manage their condition and remain physically active. With the intention of bringing this technology to market, the research team is running a 12-week user trial. We aim to recruit and collect data from a diverse group of 50 participants from the general population with knee osteoarthritis. We will collect, analyse and feedback data on various health behaviours and app usage to support the iterative development of the product over the course of the study.
As part of the project, the research team require an enthusiastic app developer to support the project in maintaining and developing the app functionality throughout the trial. This opportunity will give an individual the experience of working on an applied research project whilst at the same time helping to develop and bring a product to market. The digital health app is called iKOALA (intelligent knee osteoarthritis lifestyle app) and has been developed on the Firebase app management platform the android device platform. As such the individual would need to have experience or skills in developing and maintaining apps using this software.
The project is due to start in March 2022 and will run for 9-12 months. We anticipate that the successful candidate will need to commit on ~3 days (~22 hours) per month. This time will be spent managing a webpage, bug fixing and adding new features to the app. This work can be completed both remotely and flexibly to suit the individual and the team. You will work closely with Dr Rich Stevenson, Research Associate in the Department for Health and liaise via email and regular Microsoft Teams meetings.
Please email Richard Stevenson on [email protected] to register your interest for the role.
