The Department of Finance & Procurement wish to appoint an Assistant Accountant; a key role within the Commercial Finance Team. We are looking for a standout colleague seeking a varied, interactive role to apply their finance knowledge and experience!
This role includes the initial stage of producing monthly management accounts. Therefore, previous experience of producing accounts to trial balance stage would be beneficial. Competent Excel skills are also needed for reporting and data analysis. Experience of the University’s accounting system (Unit4 Business World Agresso) is desirable, but not essential, as training will be provided.
The role requires you to work both under your own initiative, and as a part of a wider team, therefore, skills in working in both of these ways will be vital. We are looking for someone who is highly organised, due to the breadth of the workload and the varied nature of the requirements of our stakeholders.
The Retail Operations team are one of the key stakeholders for Commercial Finance. Having some previous experience of working in/alongside Retail would therefore be advantageous, as would experience of stock-taking/stock-checking.
The role includes supervisory responsibility for a Finance Supervisor. Consequently, prior supervisory experience would be beneficial, though full line management training is available within the University.
This is a full-time role working 36.5 hours per week. Hybrid working is one of the many ways we recognise the importance of achieving a positive work life balance. The Commercial Finance team is part of the University’s Finance & Procurement Department reporting to the Director of Finance. Led by the Financial Controller, it comprises of 16 staff responsible for the financial administration, support and reporting to the Department of Estates, ahs and Security.
The Team provides financial support for the core functions of Payment processing, Income collection, Payroll and internal recharging and is responsible for all financial reporting for the stakeholder group, from budget preparation to final account stage.
