The Program Manager of Parent Bereavement Programs is responsible for development and implementation of comprehensive bereavement programs and services that will effectively address the grief and bereavement needs of parents/families who experience perinatal pregnancy loss, infant loss and child loss.

Provides ongoing guidance/support for families in coping with issues related to grief, loss and adjustment, guiding them in identification and navigation of services and resources available within MacDonald Womens and Rainbow Babies & Childrens Hospitals and in the community.

Demonstrates effective teamwork, collaboration, and communication with and among the members of the interdisciplinary health care team, community resources and the parent/family.

Develops systems/tools to evaluate and monitor the quality of bereavement interventions and grief services, as well as outcomes achieved for parents, families, staff, and community. Initiates QI activities and incorporates findings into institution activities.

Develops and oversees education and training of staff related to grief and bereavement of parents/families who have experience perinatal pregnancy loss, infant loss and child loss. Provide education and support for staff experiencing the loss of a patient.

Provides community education and outreach related to grief and bereavement.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree Required. Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling or related health field preferred.

Healthcare experience in related field required.

Experience and skill in dealing with the psychosocial dynamics of progressive, life-limiting illness, loss and death preferred.

Experience providing guidance and education to patient/families, medical community and general public required.

Experience with pediatric population preferred.

Licensed and credentialed in the appropriate health care field.

Minimum of 2 year experience in Bereavement work.

Highly motivated individual who is able to function independently as part of a clinical team.

High level of written, verbal and interpersonal communication

Must be able to communicate with all levels of public sector and the medical community.

Must have excellent organization skills.

Computer, fax machine, copier, Microsoft Word and Excel

Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment

Ability to set priorities and work effectively under competing deadlines and changing workloads.

Must have flexibility in job hours to adjust to sudden changes in workload/job requirements
