Duties and Responsibilities

The Keeling Centre for Ancient Philosophy in the Philosophy Department at UCL is seeking to appoint a part-time Ancient Greek Language Tutor to prepare and deliver a module on ancient Greek language, particularly in the context of philosophical texts. The postholder will teach approximately 80 contact hours over an academic year (Autumn and Spring terms) in ancient Greek language and related topics at a graduate level.
The core teaching will consist in the design and delivery of the following module at graduate level: ‘Ancient Greek Philosophical Language’ for a small number of participants (2-5), in seminar mode. The postholder will be required to design the course, in consultation with the Director of the Keeling Centre, set, mark and assess formative work completed throughout the term for this module, and to set and mark in-class end of term examinations at the end of the Autumn and Spring terms.
The post is part-time (0.23 FTE) and funded for 7 months with possibility of extension and a start date of September.


Key Requirements

Applicants should hold a postgraduate qualification in Classics or Philosophy with a demonstrable competence to a high level in ancient Greek language, and should have some teaching experience in the area at an institute of higher education. Graduate level knowledge of ancient Greek Philosophy would also be desirable.
