Project Engineer

Position Summary:

Responsible for planning and execution on projects of limited complexity. Responsible for coordination of project plans, contractual arrangements, schedules, activities and milestones in accordance with established policies and procedures. Bridges the technical gap between the Project Manager and Engineers. Ascertains that engineering work is done according to plan by assisting with design interpretation. Reviews bill of materials, project schedules and forecasts for accuracy. Supervises project personnel through subordinate leaders.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

• Translates contract requirements for project scope into UPI scope of services and deliverables
• Ensures project schedules and resource plans are developed and utilized in managing the project tasks
• Assigns project work and gives technical guidance to people assigned to work on the project
• Manages execution, coordination and implementation of regular reviews/controls to track project progress
• Develops action plans to address project tasks and issues
• Applies basic knowledge and understanding of customer contract to the oversight and management of the project
• Prepares standard project control requirements
• Tracks cost and schedule and uses analytical skills to forecast trends
• Promotes value creation and sustainable solution objectives for project
• Understands customer’s key drivers (KPIs)
• Establishes good working relationship with customer technical counterpart
• Establishes relationships with external vendors and suppliers
• Identifies potential technical risks and effectively develops risk mitigation, contingency and resolution plans; follows UPI risk management procedures
• Ensures proper change control processes are understood and used by the project team
• Proactively addresses technical coordination issues
• Ensures UPI approved systems, processes & tools are deployed and complied with on project
• Ensures design team is aware of and complying with customer Basis of Design and applicable codes and regulations
• Keeps all stakeholders informed of project technical status

• Demonstrated understanding of cost, schedule and estimating principles

• Ability to troubleshoot issues and assist others
• Ability to develop a relationship of trust and respect by discussing project progress, challenges and issues in a transparent manner

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university required
• Typically 8+ years of experience in the oil and gas pipeline industry. Specific experience includes pipelines, compression stations, pump stations, and meter stations for both crude oil and natural gas. Additional experience includes expertise in equipment sizing, specification development, procurement, execution management, and construction management in the areas of pipeline and station design.
• 5 to 7 years technical, supervisory and/or management experience
• Professional registration in local jurisdiction
