The SYEP-EC is responsible for conducting themselves in an appropriate manner, setting the example for participants, parents, and co-workers by reflecting the core values of UAU: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. SYEP-EC is responsible for complying with all standards set by United Activities Unlimited and its funders. The SYEP-EC will be responsible for content and curriculum for UAU’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and Work Learn Grow (WLG) program, including all contracts. Specifically, the SYEP-EC will oversee the implementation of all work/internship readiness, project-based learning (PBL), and other enrichment content throughout programming. The SYEP-EC will be responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising all SYEP and WLG Education staff, including Education Specialists and Instructors. The SYEP-EC will also serve as the key liaison for the Education team, coordinating and collaborating with the Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training, the Director of SYEP/WLG, multiple SYEP Program Coordinators, the Workforce Outreach and Marketing teams, the larger Workforce Ed Team, community partners, content partners, and funders. This position requires an individual who can work flexible hours, has 3+ years of experience in youth education, youth development, and project management, and offers a demonstrated commitment to civic engagement and/or service learning. The SYEP-EC must be able to work with both participants and peers to successfully implement service learning and workforce readiness curricula. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES:
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise all Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and Work Learn Grow (WLG) Education teams, including Education Specialists, Instructors, and Outreach Coordinators;
Lead and supervise the SYEP and WLG Education teams and content implementation, establishing and modeling existing and emerging best practices;
Develop, revise, edit, and publish project-based service learning curriculum and supplemental resource guides for UAU’s SYEP, in collaboration with and as directed by Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training;
Develop, revise, edit, and publish workplace readiness curriculum and supplemental resource guides for UAU’s WLG program, in collaboration with and as directed by Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training;
Develop, revise, edit, publish, and facilitate enrichment sessions and internship readiness content to support youth in preparing for SYEP/WLG participation;
Develop, revise, edit, publish, and coordinate the facilitation of youth Orientation sessions for SYEP and WLG, in collaboration with and as directed by Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training and the Director of SYEP;
Coordinate and support appropriate content modifications and instructional support as needed, including language accessibility and accommodations for special needs;
Develop, revise, edit, and implement trainings, activities, and professional development exercises for the SYEP Younger Youth staff (including Education Specialists and Instructors), in collaboration with and as directed by Workforce Education & Training Coordinator;
Develop, revise, edit, and implement trainings, activities, and professional development for other SYEP staff/teams, especially to ensure synergy and uniformity across the program and Workforce division, as directed;
Supervise the coordination of the Summer Speaker Series, including any specialized cohort-based partnerships, through close collaboration with the Outreach Coordinator(s) and the Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training
Conduct site visits and program observations during both SYEP and WLG, including at least one weekly site visit to Bronx program sites;
Ensure Education Specialists are conducting site visits within their caseload and are recording/reporting observations and challenges;
Work with the Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training, the Director of SYEP, and the Education Specialists to address program challenges and adapt implementation if/as needed;
Liaise and collaborate regularly with the Outreach Coordinator(s) to coordinate the schedule and logistics for guest speakers and trips relevant to program content and youth PBL efforts;
Supervise the coordination of the Summer Speaker Series, including any specialized cohort-based partnerships, through close collaboration with the Outreach Coordinator(s) and the Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training;
Serve as the key program liaison for the Education team, coordinating and collaborating with the Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training, the Director of SYEP/WLG, the Assistant Director of SYEP/WLG, multiple SYEP Program Coordinators, Employment Specialists, the Workforce Outreach and Marketing teams, the larger Workforce Ed Team, community partners, content partners, and funders;
Liaise with the Employment Coordinator to ensure program content is aligned with internship and employment needs, trends, challenges, opportunities, and best practices;
In collaboration with leadership and the administrative team, create templates needed for SYEP/WLG Education implementation, including but not limited to: attendance trackers, assignment trackers, cohort schedules and assignments, model documents and GClassrooms (as appropriate), and outreach and partnership trackers;
Meet weekly with the Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training for regular supervision, content review, training preparation, and program updates and needs;
Participate in weekly SYEP leadership meetings to share Education updates, present and advocate for solutions for Education team needs, and coordinate program activities and resources;
Host weekly meetings with Education Specialists to facilitate collaborative program leadership and remain apprised of program implementation progress, successes, and challenges, and ensure sustained and appropriate monitoring and evaluation;
Host 1:1 supervision sessions with Education Specialists as necessary/appropriate;
Coordinate and facilitate the timely distribution and collection of staff and participant evaluation documents and survey;
Coordinate and facilitate programmatic debrief sessions with various stakeholders;
Prepare and present qualitative and quantitative programmatic data related to Education implementation in collaboration with Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training;
Establish and lead the process and procedure for SYEP PBL cohort placement for Younger Youth participants;
Support the process and procedure for WLG cohort placement;
Participate in internal planning meetings and professional development activities;
Prepare detailed and compliant scope of work, curriculum, and other programmatic documents reflective of Education curricula and activities for submission to DYCD, other funder(s), and/or UAU’s executive leadership and Board of Directors;
Work with SYEP Program Director and/or Assistant Director to troubleshoot, resolve, and/or respond to concerns and/or conflicts that arise during programming among participants and/or as a result of parent outreach;
Actively participate in funder meetings and local committees/coalitions, as determined in partnership with the Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training;
Advocate and develop solutions for reducing/removing barriers to success for the SYEP/WLG Education Team(s) and youth participants served;
Assist with any other departmental duties and projects as needed
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 required.
Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in education, youth development, workforce development, and/or project management.
Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
Content/curriculum development experience strongly preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem solving and time management skills.
Ability to demonstrate and maintain strong organizational skills while managing oversight of multiple teaching teams and site locations.
Proficient use of Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint and GSuite platforms, including Google Classroom.
Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete quality work independently.
Strong leadership skills, including ability to effectively take initiative and be flexible when needed.
Excels working in a collaborative environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and occasional weekends.
