POSITION SUMMARY:

The individual selected for this position will be under the direct supervision of the Train & Earn Program Director and the Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training. The Education Specialist will be responsible for developing and facilitating work readiness, college readiness, financial literacy, leadership, basic skills, and entrepreneurship workshops for older youth and young adults enrolled in UAU’s Train & Earn program. Through their work, the Education Specialist will support participants’ development of problem-solving skills, life skills, and self-advocacy in a safe, caring, and enriching environment. The Education Specialist will have the opportunity to work in both individual and large group settings with a vulnerable population through consistent engagement, enrichment, and workshops. In addition to content development and facilitation, the Education Specialist is responsible for the coordination of select guest speaker engagements, as well as the coordination and maintenance of Train & Earn’s culinary and mentorship partnerships, ensuring they are efficiently incorporated to each cohort cycle. Administrative tasks associated with this role include maintenance of attendance/stipend trackers, submission of select case notes, and ensuring the completion of participant deliverables as required by DYCD.

The individual selected will be responsible for conducting themselves in an appropriate manner and is responsible for complying with all standards set by United Activities Unlimited and DYCD. The selected Education Specialist is expected to possess a deep interest and passion for youth development and achievement, and demonstrate an interest in and ability to facilitate content around current events, trends, challenges, and best practices in continuing education and the local workforce. Candidates familiar with personal, demographic, and cultural barriers related to youth employment are encouraged to apply. The selected Education Specialist will ideally utilize this understanding to create successful youth engagement, teachable moments, and lasting rapport with Train & Earn participants.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

• Lead content and curriculum development, revision, and implementation to engage participants
• Facilitate workshops on various work readiness topics to prepare youth between the ages of 16 and 24 to participate in the workforce
• Provide academic support and/or tutoring services for 16 to 24-year-old youth in work readiness programming who need additional assistance with reading, language, and mathematics skills
• Provide academic support and/or guidance to youth, aged 16-24, pursuing HSE or higher education opportunities
• Assess individual learning needs and apply methods of instruction specific and responsive to learning needs of participants
• Employ teaching strategies that will advance participants’ conceptual and practical knowledge, and connect learning to the pursuit and achievement of participants’ goals
• Plan participant learning and training outcomes based on long- and short-term goals, and program objectives
• Ensure the development and completion of DYCD-required deliverables documents are incorporated to participants’ training time, providing individualized and group support, as needed
• Ensure all DYCD-required deliverables documents meet established guidelines and are submitted to the Program Director for final review and submission within the established timeline
• Coordinate the integration of culinary training to each cohort cycle, including liaising with UAU’s culinary partner(s), distribution of relevant forms, surveys, and materials, and moderation of culinary sessions
• Coordinate the integration of third-party mentorship support to each cohort cycle, including liaising with UAU’s mentorship partner(s) and moderation of mentor engagements
• Effectively engage Case Managers and Job & Career Development Specialist in training implementation, including the coordination of featured content and/or targeted discussion
• Maintain regular communication with Case Managers and Job & Career Development Specialist to share participants’ progress and support participants’ efforts towards achieving their short- and long-term goals
• Develop and maintain relationships with relevant, culturally competent community partners and CBOs to enrich programming
• Monitor and assess participant attendance and performance throughout each 6-week training cycle, and utilize data and observations to inform stipend allocations
• Contribute to monthly case notes for each participant, per DYCD standards, throughout each 6-week training cycle
• Ensure completion of participant surveys to capture qualitative and quantitative feedback from participants at the end of each 6-week training cycle
• Collaborate with Train & Earn team members to host Advancement Celebration for each cohort upon completion of their 6-week training period
• Support program recruitment and retention efforts, especially through regular correspondence with and sharing of opportunities to training alumni/follow-up participants
• Support engagement and enrichment events hosted by the Train & Earn team, especially by advising on content, educational practices/approaches, and facilitating select activities
• Attend case reviews, employment/retention reviews, and other necessary inter-office meetings to ensure that all participants meet their milestones
• Attend a weekly supervision session with Train & Earn Program Director
• Attend a weekly programmatic check-in with the Assistant Director of Workforce Development – Education & Training, and participate in weekly Workforce Education Team meetings
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with staff, youth, and community partners
• Advise and coach participants to ensure success through advocacy, support, and guidance
• Participate in additional meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities, as directed
• Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Education or a related field
• 2+ years of experience in Youth Services, Continuing Education, or working with vulnerable populations
• Proficient in developing academic and life skills, including reading, writing, mathematics, professionalism, digital literacy, and financial literacy
• Ability to engage, motivate, and guide youth and young adults in the pursuit of individual and collective goals
• Ability to teach job readiness skills, including development of transferable skills, the practical application of such skills, and the ability to meaningfully reflect on areas of strength and improvement
• Demonstrates flexibility and a fluency for adapting to meet the needs of participants
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem solving and mathematical skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Excels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objectives and outcomes
