UniGroup Hiring for SOFTWARE ENGINEER II at St. Louis, MO Full Time

Under general supervision, the Software Engineer II formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding, documentation, coding, and testing required to develop or modify moderately complex information systems. This position is tasked with building modern software to connect people with the transportation and moving industries through technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Technical Skills
• Designs functions that are aligned with the overall service architecture and are easily testable, easily understood by other developers, and accounts for edge cases and errors. Understands the testing pyramid, writes unit tests in accordance with it, as well as higher level tests with help from more senior engineers. Always tests expected edge cases and errors as well as the happy path.
• Is aware of the organization’s monitoring philosophy and the operational data for their team’s domain.
• Understands the importance of security and utilizes this knowledge to ask more senior engineers for help on making decisions that may have security implications.
• Understands a subset of the team’s domain and can gain sufficient context to work productively in that portion.
• Delivery
• Understands and acts according to task prioritization set by the team and commits to a realistic amount of work. Works with their teammates both to ensure they understand priority and urgency, and to deliver upon them accordingly. Escalates any blockers, delays, and cost ballooning to their team daily. Clarifies expectations with their teammates.
• Weighs cost and value when acting to take the most economic action with help from more senior engineers.
• Feedback, Communication, Collaboration
• Able to communicate effectively, clearly, concisely and in an audience-oriented way in written and verbal form both technical and non-technical subjects, to their teammates. Also actively listens to others and ensures they are understood.
• Before beginning work, confirms that tasks are appropriately sized for continuous integration and incremental delivery with help from teammates and manager.
• Delivers praise and constructive feedback to their team, teammates, and manager in a useful manner. Works to build strong relationships with their teammates, manager, and product counterpart.

• Among others, has experience with some of the following tools: Java, Spring Boot, REST services, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, React, React Native, TypeScript, GraphQL, Git, Jenkins, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and additional software tools as need to create 12 factor apps.
• Performs a variety of other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:Education, License or Certification:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience.

Experience:

• 2-4+ years of experience in IS Development
