Umbra Hiring for Software Engineer III – Warden Team at Santa Barbara, CA Full Time

We are looking for a frontend-focused, full stack Software Engineer III for Umbra’s internal QA application, known as Warden. The individual filling this position will collaborate with designers, systems engineers, space operators, customer success, and finance to ensure we have the tools to deliver the best products to our end users. As a Software Engineer III for the team, you will have autonomy in the execution and direction of the Warden front end application, working hand-in-hand with the Warden Tech Lead. This position can be located in Santa Barbara CA, Austin TX, or Fully Remote. Due to export restrictions, fully remote employees must live and work in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with designers, product managers and product owners in executing a shared vision for Warden
• Build, test, and maintain Warden and other QA applications used by Umbra’s systems engineers, space-operations, and customer-success teams to ensure Umbra is delivering the best data possible to our customers
• Provide key frontend UI expertise to cross-functional engineering and product teams
• Help establish and adhere to DevOps practices that ensure that customer and satellite-operational needs are met with quality and performance

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Proven track record building slick modern user interfaces
• 3 – 5 years of professional experience with modern SPA development frameworks/libraries, preferably recent experience with React
• 1 – 2 years of professional experience developing highly available web services with server-side scripting languages, preferably Python
• 1 – 2 years of experience designing, developing, and testing intuitive and well-documented RESTful APIs
• Demonstrated foundational understanding of software architecture, event-driven microservices, interface design, and automated testing patterns
• Experience with database-backed applications and relational database concepts, preferably Postgres
• Solid understanding of cloud and application security, access control, and identity management
• Good communications skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and willingness to learn new skills and technology
• Experience developing Kubernetes/Docker containerized services

Desired Qualifications

• Strong understanding of infrastructure monitoring principles, best practices, and implementation
• Experience designing and documenting commercial APIs with Swagger/OpenAPI
• Experience building custom GIS applications, STAC, or other imagery catalog APIs
