As part of a project software development team, the candidate will be involved in the, software design, coding, systems integration, verification, and support activities

Specifically, the Software Engineer will be responsible for:

• Working collaboratively with a dedicated team of software engineers and with supervision from Senior Software Engineers participate in systems requirements definition and functional analysis for the proposed software solution;
• Contribute to preliminary software designs, via the evaluation of conduct candidate solutions and assisting in the development of design artefacts such as Software Requirements Specifications, Interface Design Documents and Detail Design Documents;
• Contribute to the detail software design, through the development of emulators, test harnesses and software code for the mission system in such a manner to ensure that the executable code is reliable; re-producible, maintainable and meets customer requirements;
• Support the integrity of the software design by checking of design artefacts, such as design documents, test procedures or users manuals, and through participating in informal code walk throughs and formal design reviews;
• Incorporate changes into the design to implement improvements, or address deficiencies, as required;
• Support the integration and verification of the software solution into the target hardware through participation in informal and formal testing;
• Assist in system level software, hardware and firmware integration and development testing/evaluation;
• Adhere to all company Engineering Development procedures and practices; and
• Participate in Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) activities to maintain a safe and clean work environment

Experience/Knowledge:

• Competency in at least one procedural language (C, C++, Java);
• Object Orientated analysis and design;
• Comfortable with development under Linux & Windows;
• Basic networking principles;
• Appreciation of software configuration management practices;
• Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies;
• An appreciation of the design, development and integration of complex multi-threaded real time software;
• Proficiency in technical reporting with a good eye for detail; and
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Highly desirable skills:

• Exposure to digital signal processing algorithms and techniques;
• Experience using a Version Control Systems (VCS), preferably Git;
• OpenCL/CUDA;
• Matlab (or equivalent); and
• System configuration management software eg. Ansible, Puppet, Chef

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Software, Electronic or Engineering; Computer Science (or equivalent); and
• A maximum of 2 years’ experience in software design and development.
