Job Purpose
This role sits within the Business Partnering Finance team and will support the Finance Business Intelligence Manager in identifying and developing original reports and processes to analyse and provide action-oriented insights to the business. To support Finance in developing and embedding a culture of high-performance innovation across all aspects of the directorate.
Dimensions
This role will target the optimisation of the financial reporting and analytical capabilities of the UK Power Networks Finance function. Focussing on improving the understanding of the TOTEX spending in RIIO-ED1 of £6.4 billion and how we as company can prepare ourselves for the next regulatory price control (ED2).
Generating improvements by automation and standardisation across the directorate by working with multiple teams within and outside of Finance.
Principal Accountabilities
Understand how financial data is used across the business and how we can develop reporting to assist in this.
Supporting in the identification, definition and quantification of next generation insights to help support the Finance Business Partnering team in answering analytical questions.
Use technical skills to process and analyse large amounts of data with a desire to learn new applications and technologies to remain at the forefront of this fast-moving field.
Identify opportunities and areas for attention and recommend options for action and help implement any improvements needed
Improve the data extraction and analytical skills of the department by gaining a thorough understanding of the data tables and recent reporting developments and passing this on through training and knowledge sharing.
Using the insights developed through our analytical work, quantify and translate the performance improvements into business language i.e. monetary and other internal/regulatory KPIs
Visualising and communicating the insights back to the business in simple, tailored formats
Nature and Scope
The nature of this work is to provide data manipulation and analytical support across Finance Business Partnering and the wider business as required.
This is a professional role which includes liaising throughout the business and involves communicating with non-financial managers. You will be expected to have excellent communication skills and a professional attitude to work and those with whom you deal.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
A repertoire of analytical software such as, but not limited to: R, Python, SQL, and PowerBI
Excellent inter-personal and presentational skills
Proven track record of successfully delivering analytical assignments
Strong analytical and written skills are required to enable the ability to work across consultation and regulatory requirements
The ability to work with all levels of the business from front line staff through to Directors, adapting the level of detail, tone etc. to match
A desire to seek to understand more and ask questions to ensure data is accurate and the answers being given are correct
Highly numerate and methodical with attention to detail and accuracy
An understanding of accounting principles (for example AAT or part qualified ACCA/CIMA) would be beneficial but not required
