Tula Foundation Hiring for Software Developer at Victoria, BC Full Time

The Tula Foundation’s Hakai Institute conducts leading-edge, long-term scientific research on the coastal margin of British Columbia. Our set of interlocking programs blend technology and science to better understand the coastal margin of BC and beyond. We eschew artificial boundaries both scientific and geographic, as our interdisciplinary teams work from ice fields to watersheds to the nearshore and coastal oceans. We link with regional and global networks. We integrate the disciplines. We fill the seams of coastal science.

Hakai is currently looking for a talented Software Developer to join our team. The successful candidate will be part of an outstanding team working to design, develop, and deploy innovative software solutions to collect, transform, visualize and distribute scientific data and products. You will work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects. You will collaborate with local, regional, national and global experts. Specific roles and responsibilities may include data management, data visualization, web development, user experience design and server/database development.

This full-time position is located in Victoria, British Columbia. The position includes benefits, and a competitive salary will be negotiated based on the experience of the successful candidate. Qualifications and Skills

Post-secondary education in computer science, engineering, oceanography or a related discipline

Knowledge of languages such as Python, JavaScript/Node, SQL

Experience with Linux and software deployment methods and tools

Experience with GitHub, and contributing to open source projects

Experience managing big data would be an asset

Able to meet deadlines while working in a distributed and collaborative team environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
