Education Director

Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen’s Museum, located at the center of the Jersey Shore, is looking to add to its education team to meet the evolving needs of the community it serves. The qualified candidate will be responsible for creating educational content and hosting educational programs. Familiarity with Word, Excel, FaceBook, YouTube, Constant Contact, and iMovie/iShot are preferred. Familiarity with the coastal culture of the Jersey Shore and ease in adjusting your plans when the wind is out of the west is also a must.

Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen’s Museum, located directly on the Tuckerton Creek, has been delivering high-impact educational opportunities and community-focused programs to guests and students for over twenty years. The Seaport has developed from a grass-roots organization into a nationally recognized, award winning destination museum capturing the enduring spirit of working the bay. The Seaport’s site includes 15 buildings with hands-on museum exhibits, Boardwalk, Lighthouse, Gift Shop, Visitor Center, Gardens, and Coffee Shop. The Seaport prides itself on building community by engaging guests in the living traditions of the Barnegat Bay and Pinelands. The Seaport provides a sense of place and encourages stewardship of the coastal culture, local arts, heritage, and the environment. We know that the best learning often happens in unexpected places.

Salary: $40,000+

Must be available to work one weekend day each week.

Qualifications and Skills:

ü BA, MA preferred in Education, Folklife, Art, History, Cultural Anthropology, Anthropology, Social Work, or a related field

ü Experience with Educational Programs

ü Experience maintaining a schedule

ü Experience with Guest Services, Customer Service

ü Experience engaging diverse communities and building nontraditional audiences preferred

ü Experience coordinating programs in schools or museums preferred

ü Museum or nonprofit experience preferred

ü Excellent written and communication skills

ü Ability to roll with the punches and adjust rapidly

ü Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

ü Above all, a willingness to learn and grow in the position

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $20.00 – $24.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Day shift
• Weekend availability

COVID-19 considerations:
The safety of our staff and guests are the top priority. While indoors, both staff and guests are required to wear masks while interacting with others. Staff will have their own office space. Public spaces and restrooms are disinfected regularly.
