Responsibilities:

As the Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR) for our family-owned steel distributor company, you will be a key strategic partner to the executive leadership team, responsible for driving organizational change, providing executive coaching, and overseeing all aspects of HR operations. Your primary focus will be on implementing effective change management strategies, executive coaching, managing payroll and benefits, leading the HR team, handling union relations, and optimizing HR systems to support the company’s growth and success.

HR Strategy and Leadership

• Collaborates with executive leadership to define the organization’s long-term mission and goals; identifies ways to support this mission through talent management
• Provides guidance to senior leadership on HR related matters
• Drive the organization development to enhance employee productivity, engagement and retention

Workforce Planning and Talent Acquisition

• Oversee workforce planning efforts to appropriate staffing levels and succession planning
• Implement the best practices for recruitment and onboarding processes
• Drafts and implements the organization’s staffing budget, and the budget for the human resource department

Employee Relation and Compliance

• Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management
• Provides guidance and support to manager and staff on HR policies, procedures and best practices
• Oversee the investigation of employee complaints and grievances

Performance Management and Employee Development

• Design and implement training and development programs to enhance skills and capabilities of manufacturing employees
• Provide guidance and coaching to managers on performance
• Develop performance management systems to drive organization and individual performance

Change Agent at All Levels

• Lead and drive organizational change initiatives to support business objectives and enhance performance.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement change management strategies and communication plans to ensure successful adoption at all levels of the organization.

Executive Coaching

• Provide personalized coaching and guidance to the executive team to enhance leadership effectiveness, decision-making, and strategic thinking.
• Support senior leaders in navigating complex people-related challenges and building high-performing teams.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning and development among executives.

Payroll, Benefits, and HR Team Oversight

• Oversee and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing, benefits administration, and HR operations.
• Collaborate with the HR team to maintain and enhance HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Lead the HR team in providing exceptional support to employees and managers regarding HR-related inquiries and issues.

Union Relations

• Manage and maintain positive relationships with unions, if applicable, to ensure productive labor relations and adherence to collective bargaining agreements.
• Lead negotiation efforts with union representatives and collaborate with legal counsel as needed.

HR Systems

• Evaluate and optimize HR systems, including HRIS (Human Resources Information System), to streamline HR processes and data management.
• Recommend and implement technological solutions to improve HR efficiency and data analytics capabilities

Compensation and Benefits

• Ensure compensation and benefits practices align with industry standards
• Researches, develops, and implements competitive compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, and employee incentive programs
• Analyze market trends to recommend compensation and benefits programs

HR Analytics and ing

• Establish HR metrics to measure the effectiveness of programs and initiatives withing the manufacturing function
• Provides insight to Senior leadership on trends and areas of improvement
• Identifies key performance indicators for the organization’s human resource and talent management functions

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required, Master’s degree highly preferred
• Proven experience (10+ years) in senior HR leadership roles, with a focus on change management, executive coaching, and HR operations management
• Extensive experience (10 years) in HR leadership roles within the manufacturing industry
• In-depth knowledge of best practices in HR, employment law and regulations related to manufacturing
• Experience in performance management and talent acquisition within a manufacturing environment
• Strong experience in handling payroll, benefits administration, and HR team leadership.
• Demonstrated success in driving organizational change and achieving buy-in from all levels of the organization.
• Experience with union relations, negotiations, and collective bargaining agreements.
• Proficiency in HR systems and technology to optimize HR processes and data analysis.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in complex HR and organizational matters.
• SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP strongly preferred
