Job Description : Summary :

The main functionof a commercial and industrial designer is to develop and designmanufactured products, such as cars and home appliances.

A typicalcommercial and industrial designer needs to combine artistic talentwith research on product use, marketing, and materials to createthe most functional and appealing product design.

Job Responsibilities :

Prepare sketches ofideas, detailed drawings, illustrations, artwork, or blueprints,using drafting instruments, paints and brushes, or computer-aideddesign equipment.

Modify and refine designs, usingworking models, to conform with customer specifications, productionlimitations, or changes in design trends.

Coordinate thelook and function of product lines.

Confer withengineering, marketing, production, or sales departments, or withcustomers, to establish and evaluate design concepts formanufactured products.

Read publications, attendshowings, and study competing products and design styles and motifsto obtain perspective and generate design concepts.

Design graphic material for use as illustration or advertising onmanufactured materials and packaging or containers.

Skills :

Creativity, verbal and writtencommunication skills and problem solving ability.

Basicability to utilize various forms of media, including print,electronic and film.

Basic knowledge of designtechniques, tools, and principles involved in production ofprecision technical plans, blueprints, drawings andmodels.

Previous experience using the computer to createlayouts and generate new images.

Experience with Adobeimaging software (i.e., Illustrator, Photoshop), computer aideddesign (CAD) software and graphics software.

Education / Experience :

Bachelor’s degree in industrialdesign, architecture or engineering. Masters degreepreferred.

5-7 years experience required.
