SERVICE DISPATCHER
The Service Dispatcher’s role is like the conductor of a fine orchestra; it is all about coordinating and directing the individual technicians in their daily workload and schedule to hit every note/customer service request in unison. The click of the computer keyboard on the dispatching map is music to the Dispatcher’s ears. Dispatcher composes the initial routes the night before but is ready to pivot the next morning with high priority requests like freeform jazz.
What Does the Service Dispatcher Do?
A typical day starts with caffeine jolt and a perusal of the morning incoming service requests from customers. Tweaking the routes as needed for the technicians is the warm-up exercise for the big show. Once the techs are on the road, use that momentary interruption free time to gargle a seltzer or stretch your texting fingers….always ready to talk to a tech or admin about incoming service requests. Audit recently completed tickets to ensure a proper status is marked in our system and everything is harmonized. Relax by watching the GPS map of the vans moving throughout the day like a weird arcade game. Recharge with snacks and office memes or Youtube clip of the day. Monitor progress of the techs, add and remove calls as needed. As the day nears its final crescendo it is time to create tomorrow’s routes like a skilled maestro. Then head home but keep your cell phone handy – the dispatcher always confirms the last call and that the techs are headed home too. No man left behind! Then relax, recharge, and repeat.
